Central Virginia Chapter of Project Linus

Home

Project Linus is a non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.

  • First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers”.
  • Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

Established in March 2006, our chapter serves children in Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa, Nelson and Orange counties in Virginia. We work with organizations such as UVA Childrens Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Albemarle County Child Protective Services and Children, Youth and Family Services.

Watch Us Grow!

As of year end 2009 the Central Virginia Chapter has distributed 1983 quilts, afghans and fleece blankets to children right here in the local area.   Who knows how far we can go!?!

How Can You Help?
Our blanketeers are people just like you! You don't need to know how to sew, knit, or crochet to help out! While we do need volunteers to do those things, we also need willing hands to buy supplies, solicit donations, recruit new blanketeers, deliver blankets, and establish new partnerships with organizations that work with children.

Project Linus is a great project for youth and church groups. Teens find it especially enjoyable to work on something together, and just chat about what is going on in their lives.

New Partnership - Palmyra Ladies Auxillary

We are always excited to make contact with new organizations who are willing to help us reach more children.  Thanks to Donna Wills at the Palmyra Ladies Auxilliary, we are now working with the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department!  Donna is working with us to get blankets in rescue and emergency vehicles throughout the county!

Day of Caring 1

Project Linus Day at Patchwork Plus

On November 20 and 21 Ken Reeves and his staff at Patchwork Plus hosted 3 Project Linus events.  Customers brought pieced crib size tops to class and quilted them using the Handi Quilter long arm machines.  Under the watchful eye of Handi Quilter instructor Jeanne Bergeron, participants learned to "float" their quilt top and apply binding right on the machine.

The finished quilts have been donated to Project Linus and will be distributed in Rockingham County.

Special thanks to Handi Quilter, Moda (who donoated the quilt back) and especially Patchwork Plus for their partnership!

If you've never tried a long arm machine, believe me, it IS the way to go!  Be on the lookout for more information about another event like this in the Charlottesville area!
